Meet the Team

Darren and Mike met as neighbors in 2019. We soon became business partners creating One-Eared Dog Farm!

  • I grew up on a family farm in the thumb of Michigan and moved to Southwest Michigan after meeting my wife in college. I knew I wanted to maintain a connection to farming and found it in the creation of One-Eared Dog Farm with Mike! I love to learn, dig into new challenges, and get outdoors as much as possible.

  • As a scientist, innovation & sustainability have always been cornerstones of my work. With a passion for people & nature, I am genuinely enjoying the discovery elements of One-Eared Dog Farm. Our commitment to the welfare of our livestock & quality products challenges me to further sharpen my skills in carpentry, gardening & beekeeping.

Our Story

One-Eared Dog Farm first began with Mike’s work with bees and gardening on his property. The first dog he had on the farm was Anja, a one-eared dog!

Our inspiration, Anja the one-eared dog

Darren and Mike met in 2019 and were discussing separate dreams of starting a farm. We each knew we wanted to start something unique and soon after became business partners! After much reading and planning about pheasants, we built a flight pen and ordered chicks.

We learned much the first year and incubated our own eggs along with ordering more chicks the following spring. We are now incubating eggs for our entire crop.

We handpick our finest pheasants to keep each fall as breeders and release them in the spring after incubation in hopes of a local pheasant population renewal.

The rest of the pheasants are processed in the fall at a USDA approved facility and frozen to maintain freshness. We sell the fully dressed pheasants locally to individuals, restaurants, and markets.

We are expanding our knowledge and business more each year and approach the farm with quality of life and quality of product as our focus.
